The Blue Room

Progress on the upstairs is slow, but steady. I’m just about finished with the north bedroom, aka the Blue Room. When I first moved into the house, the exterior walls of both bedrooms upstairs were ruined by leaky windows. My first job was to put new sheetrock on the walls, and install new windows. In both cases, that meant rebuilding the window casings since the water had rotted the wood of the old casings. With that done, the house was ready for the appraiser and the bank agreed to make the loan. Here’s the pics before and after the window fix.

Lately, I’ve been working on painting and installing trim to the room. I had hoped to be finished with it by now, but I miscalculated the length of crown moulding I’d need and ended up being 8′ short. :( Arithmetic never was my thing. The walls are painted and finished, and I have the beadboard wainscoating up. Right now, the beadboard only has a coat of primer on it and needs a coat of white semi-gloss to finish it. Then I can install the chairrail. Its taking shape, though. Here are some pics of what I’ve done so far. (ignore the messy bed in the middle.)

The Blue Room is finally complete! …well, nearly so. Its complete for now. :P We want to relocate the light fixture in the ceiling to a more central place. The fixture now is near the inside wall. Before part of the bedroom was walled off to make a bathroom, the fixture was in the center of the room, but now its offset. We’d like to move it to the current center and install a white ceiling fan instead of a simple overhead lamp. That will be a project for the fall, though. The attic is brutal in the summertime! Here are a couple of pics showing the completed trim work.
